WHAT WE DO

About us:

Child Welfare Tshwane (CWT) is a community-based Child Protection Organisation that functions within the legal framework of the Children’s Act 2005.

We are 104 years old and are deeply rooted in the communities of Tshwane.

CWT is responsible for child protection services to abused and vulnerable children and their families. Safety and risk assessment services are provided across the Tshwane geographical area.

Our main aim is securing a better life for children in Tshwane, through various intervention strategies.

Compliance:

  • Child Welfare Tshwane is guided by a constitution that is regularly reviewed to comply with relevant legislation

    – Public Benefit Organisation – Registration: 18/11/13/2480
    – VAT registration – 4950127896
  • Donations to Child Welfare Tshwane are eligible to receive Article 18(a) tax exemption certificates to the full value of the donation.
  • Child Welfare Tshwane falls in the BBBEE Social Economic Development (SED) category.
  • We provide services to 89% black beneficiaries from previously disadvantaged communities.

Governance:

  • CWT is governed by a Board of Management that complies with the King IV standards of governance and comprise of community members and elected officials.
  • The Board is chaired by Ms Célest van Niekerk, who has extensive knowledge of corporate governance, community involvement and marketing.
  • The Board of Management Executive Committee consist of the Chairperson, Deputy chairperson, Treasurer, Director, and Board Secretary.
  • The Board consist of 13 members and fully represents the communities where Child Welfare Tshwane operates.

Structure and Staff:

  • Child Welfare Tshwane is governed by a community driven & representative Board of Management
  • The Director, Ms Linda Nell, is responsible for all organisational & operational matters.
  • The Executive Management team comprises of the Director, Social Work Manager, Financial Manager, Human Resources Manager and Marketing/Fundraising Manager.
  • The Executive Management team is supported by 5 programme Supervisors who are responsible for the line function implementation of the community interventions.
  • Child Welfare Tshwane has a total of 89 employees.

Who we reach:

  • The main beneficiaries of Child Welfare Tshwane are disadvantaged, poor and marginalised Black and Coloured families.
  • With specific focus on vulnerable, abused, abandoned, and neglected children.
  • Who lives in the peri-urban, urban, and inner city of Tshwane.
  • This includes people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
  • Victims of Gender Based Violence.
  • Principals, teachers, and school-based support teams (capacity building); and
  • Learners with educational needs.
